Spring 2026 Newsletter:
Over the past few months we have been busy on your behalf, including:
- Working with Hertfordshire County Council on road safety, including Station Road/Well Road junction, Cattlegate/Coopers Lane Road, and improvements to older zebra crossings
- Monitoring all Parish planning applications and submitting objections where appropriate
- Notifying members of significant planning applications in the Parish
- Successful negotiations for the Plough Hill pedestrian crossing and speed bumps
- Meetings with County, Borough and Parish Councillors to raise residents’ concerns
- Meeting with the Cuffley Surgery Manager to discuss patient issues and access
- Donating towards children’s craft activities at our Community Library to mark Herts Libraries’ 100-year centenary
- Sourcing books for the Cuffley Station Book Swap launch (no travel ticket needed to enjoy the books on Platform 2)
- Liaising with Goffs Oak Community Association and Crews Hill Residents Association
- Participation in CPRE and London Green Belt Council meetings
- Attendance at the Cecil Gascoigne renewable energy plans meeting
Report from the Residents Association 2026 AGM:
The Northaw & Cuffley Residents Association (NCRA) was pleased to welcome a strong turnout at this year’s AGM, reflecting the growing concern and engagement within our community. We were particularly encouraged by the attendance of the Chairs of the Goffs Oak and Crews Hill Residents Associations, alongside active representation from the Enfield Society, whose campaign against the arbitrary 21,000 housing target was both compelling and informative. We were also grateful to hear from Borough Councillor Barbara Fitzsimon and County Councillor Fiona Thomson, both of whom continue to represent our villages with commitment and integrity. A key message from our councillors was clear: local voices matter.
On a positive note, we are delighted that Diane Draper will continue in her role as Treasurer and as our ever-vigilant “planning eagle.” Her expertise and dedication remain invaluable as we navigate increasingly complex planning matters.
The AGM highlighted the importance of building momentum as we move forward. Our area continues to face extensive development pressures, often without the necessary investment in infrastructure. Concerns remain around road capacity, access to GP services, public transport provision, youth facilities, and other essential services that are critical to maintaining the character and sustainability of our villages. Now, more than ever, we need collective action. We encourage all residents to stay engaged, attend meetings where possible, and support the work of the Association as we continue to advocate for responsible, balanced development that truly reflects the needs of our community.
Summer 2026 Newsletter:
This has been a busy few months for the Northaw & Cuffley Residents Association, and we continue to work on behalf of residents across both villages on the issues that matter to our community.
Like many residents, we have been disappointed by the extent and duration of the summer roadworks. Cuffley Hill — again, and again, and again — has been subject to repeated disruption, while works on Northaw Road East have caused further congestion and diversionary traffic. The consequences have been felt well beyond the immediate works, including at least one reported collision on Theobalds Road, where diverted traffic was being funnelled through. Why these works appear to be so prolonged and, at times, poorly coordinated is something that leaves many of us scratching our heads. And, no doubt, just as we think the disruption is behind us, those familiar temporary traffic lights on Cuffley Hill will make another appearance! We will be making enquiries and seeking answers.
Alongside campaigning on local issues, we have continued to build relationships and support initiatives that benefit our community. We have been involved with Valley View Surgery, with two of our committee members volunteering at the flu clinic on 3 October. We were also pleased to support the Orchard Fayre, continue our book supply at Cuffley Station, and arrange a 10% discount at Mazi Restaurant on Mondays and Wednesdays for NCRA members. We are grateful to the local businesses and organisations that are willing to work with us and help strengthen community life.
We have also been bringing together community leaders to explore how we can better connect the various organisations, groups and initiatives operating across Northaw and Cuffley. There is enormous goodwill locally, and we believe there is real value in working more closely together. Our regular email newsletters will continue to keep members informed about local developments, events, consultations and opportunities to get involved.
We have also contributed to the campaign concerning Tesco parking, supporting the extension of the free parking allowance to 30 minutes. This is particularly important for our senior and disabled residents, for whom short visits to the store should not unnecessarily become a parking or financial concern.
Looking ahead, please stay tuned and, importantly, stay engaged. We are going to need residents' input as proposals for significant new development come forward, including development on land that was formerly designated as Green Belt. These changes have the potential to affect our roads, infrastructure, services, environment and the character of our villages for years to come.
